Porirua & the coast

Heat pump installation in Porirua

Porirua runs from salt-sprayed coastal Plimmerton and Titahi Bay to windy new hillside homes at Whitby and older, damper suburbs inland. We plan each install around its real setting, from corrosion to wind to warmth, and fit every major brand.

No obligation. We usually reply the same business day.

We install heat pumps right across Porirua, from the coast at Plimmerton, Pukerua Bay and Titahi Bay to hillside Whitby, Aotea and Papakowhai and the older homes of Cannons Creek and Waitangirua. The setting shifts a lot, so we plan each install for salt, wind or damp. We fit all major brands.

Porirua is one of the wider Wellington areas we serve, shaped by the harbour and the wind that funnels through it. The job is the same careful approach as our heat pump installation in Wellington, planned around exposed, coastal-edge sites.

Coastal homes and salt air

Right around the harbour and out to the open coast at Plimmerton, Pukerua Bay, Titahi Bay, Mana, Paremata and Camborne, salt air is the main thing to plan for. Salt slowly eats away at an outdoor unit that's badly chosen or badly sited, which shortens its life and costs you a replacement years early.

We site the outdoor unit to keep it out of the direct salt spray and, for homes close to the water, we'll go with models that have better-protected coil coatings. For exposed coastal sites we often suggest the corrosion-resistant build of some Fujitsu heat pumps, which stand up well to salt over the long run.

Newer hillside homes at Whitby and Aotea

The newer, larger homes climbing the hills through Whitby, Aotea, Papakowhai and Ranui Heights are a different job again. A lot of them are two-storey and open-plan, which makes them good candidates for a ducted heat pump system or a multi-split that heats several rooms from one outdoor unit.

Wind is the catch up here. Ridgelines around Porirua get a real battering, so we mount and bracket the outdoor unit securely and tuck it out of the worst of the gusts, so it runs efficiently rather than fighting the weather.

Older, damper homes inland

Through Cannons Creek, Waitangirua and parts of Ranui there's a lot of older, east-facing state-era housing that runs cold and often damp. Warmth and damp control matter most here, and the good news is that a well-sized heat pump is the cheapest way to dry a home out and keep it warm through winter.

We size sensibly so you get a unit that does the job without paying for capacity you'll never use. You can check the numbers against our honest heat pump installation cost guide. If your Porirua home was built before 2008, you may also qualify for the Warmer Kiwi Homes grant, which can cover up to 90% of an approved heat pump.

Suburbs we cover in Porirua

Around the harbour and up the hills, we cover every corner of Porirua.

On the coast, Plimmerton, Pukerua Bay, Titahi Bay, Mana, Paremata, Camborne and Takapuwahia all live with salt air, so we site and spec the outdoor unit to last by the sea. On the eastern hills, the newer, larger homes of Whitby, Aotea, Papakowhai and Ranui Heights suit a bigger system or a ducted setup, with wind to allow for on the ridgelines.

On the flatter eastern side, Cannons Creek, Waitangirua, Ascot Park and Elsdon hold a lot of solid older homes that can run cold and damp, where the right unit makes a real difference to warmth and power bills.

Nearby areas we cover

We work across the wider region too. Over the hill to the east we cover heat pump installation in Upper Hutt, and up the line to the north you'll find our page on heat pump installation on the Kapiti Coast. South toward the harbour we also handle heat pump installation in Lower Hutt.
