Kapiti Coast
Heat pump installation on the Kapiti Coast
Covering Paraparaumu, Waikanae and the wider coast, we install heat pumps built for salt air and the Tasman westerly. Winters here are milder than the valleys but windy, and many homes are single-level, so easy whole-home comfort is the goal.
We install heat pumps across the whole Kapiti Coast, and this one page covers both Paraparaumu and Waikanae, plus Raumati, Otaki, Paekakariki and Peka Peka. The land here is flat and sandy, open to the Tasman westerly, with salt air near the beach and milder but windy winters. We fit all major brands.
The Kapiti Coast rounds out the areas we serve across greater Wellington, and being right on the coast drives a lot of the choices. The install itself is the same careful job as our heat pump installation in Wellington, planned around salt air and open sections.
Paraparaumu and Waikanae, one team
To be clear, we cover the full coast from one local crew: Paraparaumu and Paraparaumu Beach, Waikanae and Waikanae Beach, Raumati and Raumati Beach, plus Otaki, Paekakariki and Peka Peka. Wherever you are along the line, you get the same install and the same advice.
Salt air and the Tasman westerly
The Kapiti Coast faces straight into the prevailing westerly off the Tasman Sea, and near the beach at Paraparaumu Beach, Raumati Beach, Waikanae Beach and Paekakariki that wind carries salt well inland. Salt slowly attacks an unprotected outdoor unit, so close to the coast we'll go with models that have better-protected coil coatings and a corrosion-resistant build, and we site the unit to keep it out of the worst of the spray.
Wind brings a second issue: draughts. Exposed coastal homes lose heat to wind-driven draughts around doors and windows, so getting the sizing right matters, so the heat pump keeps up on a blustery day rather than running flat out.
Single-level homes and easy whole-home comfort
A lot of Kapiti housing is single-level on a flat section, and the coast has a big retiree population, so whole-home warmth and simple, easy-to-use controls matter more here than anywhere else in the region. Single-level layouts suit a ducted heat pump system particularly well, heating the whole house evenly from one quiet, concealed unit with one straightforward controller.
Where a ducted system is more than you need, a high-wall split with a clear, simple remote does the job for a room or two. We'll walk you through the options and what each should cost using our honest heat pump installation cost guide. Plenty of older Kapiti homes were built before 2008, so it's worth checking whether you qualify for the Warmer Kiwi Homes grant before you commit.
Brands we fit on the coast
We recommend on merit, not a dealer target. For salt-exposed beachside homes we often suggest the corrosion-resistant build of some Fujitsu heat pumps, which hold up well in coastal air. We fit all five major brands, so the choice always suits your home and budget.
Suburbs we cover on the Kapiti Coast
We cover the whole coast, beach to township.
Right on the sand, Paraparaumu Beach, Waikanae Beach, Raumati Beach and Paekakariki take the full force of the Tasman westerly and the salt that comes with it, so corrosion-resistant gear and careful siting pay off. A little inland, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, Raumati and Otaihanga are milder but still breezy, with plenty of single-level homes that suit ducted heating.
To the north, Otaki and Peka Peka stretch out into lifestyle blocks and township streets, and we're happy to head up the line for them.
Nearby areas we cover
We work south down the line too. Toward Wellington you'll find our page on heat pump installation in Porirua, and further round the harbour we cover heat pump installation in Lower Hutt and, up the valley, heat pump installation in Upper Hutt.
